If you think you may have been exposed to syphilis,

call 455-5442 immediately.

     Some signs that you may be infected with syphilis are:

       ·   Sores in the genital or “private” areas.

       ·   A rash or spots on the palms of the hands or the soles of the feet.

       ·   Swelling or tenderness in the groin area.

You should be tested for syphilis if you fit in one of the above groups.

     Syphilis is a sexually-transmitted disease (STD). People who are at risk for getting this      disease are:

          ·     Persons with more than one sex partner

          ·     Persons who have had unprotected sex

          ·     Commercial sex workers (prostitutes)

          ·     Persons who trade sex for money or drugs

           ·     Persons with other STDs (including HIV)

          ·     Sexual partners of persons with syphilis

Southwest District Health has detected an increase number of syphilis infections in the Greater Treasure Valley, especially among young Hispanics.
